Full Biography

Alirio deMeireles, MD, MBA, is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement. He provides comprehensive care for patients with hip and knee arthritis, with a focus on primary and revision joint replacement. His approach combines advanced surgical techniques, current research, and personalized care to help patients reduce pain, restore mobility, and return to the activities they enjoy.

Dr. deMeireles earned his bachelor’s degree in evolutionary biology from Yale University, where he was a member of the men’s varsity lacrosse team and helped the Bulldogs win three Ivy League championships. He was also recognized as a Scholar All-American.

He earned both his medical degree and Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, completing concentrations in strategy and healthcare management. While in medical school, he graduated with distinction in academic research and received additional recognition for excellence in medical innovation and entrepreneurship.

Dr. deMeireles completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he was selected to serve as executive chief resident. During his residency, he received the Harold M. Dick Award as Resident of the Year. He then pursued advanced fellowship training in adult hip and knee reconstruction at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in Philadelphia.

Actively involved in orthopaedic research, Dr. deMeireles has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters focused on hip and knee replacement, robotic-assisted surgery, implant technology, revision procedures, and patient outcomes. His work has been presented at national and international orthopaedic conferences.

Dr. deMeireles is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Outside of medicine, he enjoys playing, coaching, and watching lacrosse, learning about wine, and exploring entrepreneurship and medical-device innovation.
